Who wants terrific spectacular shimmies to mesmerize their audience? Here are drills and daily exercises for improving your hips shimmies!
This intensive consists of two major parts:
1. Short daily exercises for your hips (4 minutes daily)
2. Three 20-min dance tutorials per week with combos and drills to work on your hips shimmy.

Suggested duration: 3 weeks
If you follow our suggested duration of three weeks, get ready to invest 1-1,5 hour per week in your training. But remember, you can always go through this intensive at your own pace. Three weeks is just a suggested structure.
Week 1:
- 10-min introductory lecture.
- Document your current state of shimmy by recording a 20-sec video of you doing the basic hips shimmy.
- Introducing your daily 4-min drill.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Concept of Hips Shimmy. In this video, we are gonna dive deep into the concept of hips shimmy. Let's stop confusing it with knee shimmies. After nailing the basics, we will start building up towards more advanced technique.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Overview of Shimmy Types. Let's review the theory of basic shimmies, as well as give a nice workout on vibration and hips shimmies.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Hips Shimmy in a Combo. Breaking down a belly dance version of the pas de bourree step, and working on our hips shimmies and accents in different combo variations.
Week 2:
- 10-min lecture: Check Your Potential Mistakes
- Your new daily 4-min drill.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Layered Shimmy. We continue to work on hips shimmy, and now we are ready to start layering it on top of basic movements. Let's take it slow and easy at first. :)
- 20-min dance tutorial: Stretching Hip Muscles. Hips, hips, hips!.. Stretching, shimmying, and polishing the so-called "horse" step.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Full Body Workout. Full body workout: we'll start with undulations, trying to work on fluidity and speed, followed by an upper body combo, an exercise for overall body coordination & isolation, and finishing with a nice drilling of our favorite hips shimmy.
Week 3:
- Your new daily 4-min drill.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Advanced Hips Shimmy. This is the third drill created specifically for this intensive about hips shimmy.
- 20-min dance tutorial: Twisting Hips Shimmy. Let's take our hips shimmy to the next level, and add some twisting to it. ;)
- 20-min dance tutorial: Walking Hips Shimmy. Challenge yourself with a practice focusing on walking hips shimmy.
- Compare Your 'Before & After’! Document your current state of hips shimmy by recording a 20-sec video of you doing the basic hips shimmy. Compare your videos from three weeks ago and now.
